For 12 (2005 - 2016) Barbara was one of just 115 International Olympic Committeee members governing the Global Olympic Movement including electing host Olympic cities, the sports program and helping distribute $3.25 million dollars every day back to sport around the world. She represented Athletes, Woman, New Zealand and Oceania's voice on 13 different commissions and working groups during her tenure.
Barbara spent 20 years on the NZOC Athlete's commission (1996 - 2016) driving change within the organisation to have athletes input in all decision making. In 2005 - 2016 she joined the NZOC Executive board further ensuring these changes were implemented
"After the London Olympic Games 90% of NZ athletes said they felt the NZOC had helped create a culture that enhanced the athletes experience".
Barbara currently is a Vice President on the International Surfing Association. She has been an integral part of the campaign to include Surfing into the Olympic programme for Tokyo 2020.
For 12 years (2005 - 2017) Barbara chaired the Oceania Athletes Commission developing the leadership capacity of athletes around the region. The Oceania Athletes commission trail blazed with forums, education, training and collaboration, forming "Voices of the Athletes" calling athletes to be a leader, play true, play safe go green, stay active . Over 5000 athletes have benefitted from the program and continues to be delivered at all major games in Oceania.
Barbara was the first ever chair of the Association National Olympic Committee Athletes Commission (2103 - 2018) made up of 5 continents - Europe, Africa, Asia, America's and Oceania. Together they created a Tool kit and best practice guide and templates from Athletes Commission around the world and succeeded ensuring forums for athletes in each continent now occur every 2 years.
Barbara’s most significant contribution has been in the development of the IOC Athletes’ Career + Program assisting athlete in life after sport.
Over the past decade, Barbara worked with more than 3000 athletes, coaches and managers. She is currently the Global Master Trainer for the Career + program. Around the world, more than 40,000 athletes have benefited from the Athletes’ Career Program.
